Brittany at last!

It was 19th August and we were finally heading to Brittany. It had been one of our planned areas to visit last year but we never made it. Now we were on our way.

The journey to Toutainville and Camping Risle Seine Les Etangs took a few hours but was very smooth. We had booked for two nights with a view to moving on to Cherbourg as Andy had a meeting in Plymouth the following week. It was a small and friendly site with a swimming pool, bar, restaurant and helpful reception. I soon decided to stay longer and Andy was happy to drive to Cherbourg for his ferry. Staying at the caravan in France alone when Andy has meetings in the U.K. is no problem but being on a friendly site makes it easier.

We visited the picturesque port of Honfleur and although we only had a couple of hours there we were very impressed. Andy is always happy when he sees yachts so that was him sorted πŸ˜‚ I think we will definitely revisit.

Andy sailed off to Poole and stayed a couple of nights at my brother Trevor’s place in Weymouth. His meeting was in Plymouth. During his trip I cycled, read, swam and in general just chilled in the sun. On his return we decided to move on the following day as the weather was changing. So after breakfast we packed the car and hooked up the caravan, heading off to Pontorson.

It was 15:30 when we arrived at Pontorson and Camping Haliotis. We booked in for 3 nights and the good news is that the ACSI discount period starts tomorrow so we are back on low site fees 😍😍

The site has a lovely pool area and a sauna. There’s a bar with snacks available and a small shop with bread and croissants available to order for the next morning. All good and just a cycle ride to Mont Saint Michel.

The following morning we made a visit to Lidl (always exciting πŸ˜ƒ) and stocked the fridge once more.
After lunch at the caravan we headed along the riverside cycle path to visit Mont Saint Michel. The weather was lovely, blue skies with just a few scattered clouds.

We had to park the bikes and walk the final mile to the Mont although a free shuttle bus service is available. As we walked Andy took photos of every angle and I took photos of Andy taking photos πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

After a browse around and postcards purchased we took the shuttle back to where we parked the bikes. There we met some beautiful cows and had a rest in a lovely deck chair. We then sat in the sun enjoying a beer before cycling back to the caravan.

It’s Sunday 26th August and as I opened the door this morning there was a chill in the air! After yesterday’s lovely weather it was a bit of a shock even though it had been forecast 😲😲 We had a lazy Sunday on site, just chilling, reading and a little wander or two.

The next morning we went for a bike ride on the cycle path along the coast to the small seaside town of Cherrueix. It was a lovely ride along a shaded track and then out onto the open coastal path.

Once at Cherrueix we sat and watched all the action at the Γ©cole de char Γ  voile (sand yachting school) They really did move with the wind in their sails.

A drink in the local bar was good before our return journey. Can you believe it was coffee & hot chocolate? πŸ˜‚πŸ˜ We had cycled 24miles with only a little electric assistance so a beer once we were back at the caravan was well earned.

Tuesday 28th August we decided to move on to the far west tip of Brittany. To Camaret-sur-mer and Camping Plage de Trev-Rouz.
The views as we got closer were amazing. The rugged coastline with small coves and lovely beaches was beautiful.

The campsite entrance looked out to sea, the indoor swimming pool was great and the morning croissants and baguette aux cereal were scrumptious. Even the chickens enjoyed them. What more could we need? Life is good 😍

We had bike rides along the coast and the electric mode was definitely needed for some of the hills. Camaret-sur-mer was a lovely place to visit.

We visited the Pointe Des Espagnols and the views were great, also the history of this place was so interesting.

Crozon and the old fishing port of Morgat was beautiful. Morgats beach was noted as the 14th most beautiful beach in the World. Now that’s impressive!!

The whole place had a very modern feel to say it was an old fishing port. There were lots of lovely bars and restaurants along the front and many activities available such as cycle and kayak hire, boat trips and a sailing school.

Our next move is to Concarneau and Camping les Sables Blanc along the south Brittany coast.

Doing what you like is freedom, liking what you do is happiness 😍
