Our last week of skiing

Here we are still living the dream. The sun is shining and we had a lovely morning skiing. I even feel I’m improving a little. We sat in the sun on a bench along the mountain footpath enjoying our picnic lunch. A couple we had met in the supermarket the evening before stopped to have a chat and told us their daughter was competing in the ski jumping competition. Her name is Anna Hoffman and we shall follow her progress from now on.

The afternoon was spent enjoying the mountain and skiing to our hearts content. We saw a few avalanches but they were higher than our ski area. Once back at the Scout Centre we had a lovely chat with our friends Raquel & Andre from Portugal. With photos of gorgeous little baby Manuel in his Stoke City kit.

The 31st January and Happy Birthday to my little brother Trevor. 😘😘

Up on the mountain and our first run down the blue I was in agony, my left thigh hurt on every turn. By the time we were at the bottom of the Β T bar I was in tears.
I was so upset we couldn’t ski. I managed to get Andy to go for a whizz on his own. We then went back to the centre. We went for a drive to Frutigen in the valley to look at a caravan site we had seen advertised. Then headed to Spiez and visited Lidl πŸ˜€ We stocked up with food for the week at reasonable prices. They even had quiche 😍😍 as it was a French food offer that was on that week. The Swiss eat lots of cheese, ham and eggs but not quiche! How strange. πŸ˜‚

There had been snow forecast for overnight and in the morning it was still falling. A relaxing day around the centre was good for my leg, Andy was able to do some work on his laptop and I booked some flights and hotels for our Vietnam trip. By lunch the snow was still falling, 6 inches already.

We decided to go and watch some ski jumping at the Nordic Arena in Kandersteg. We walked in the snow and it was quite a way. As we arrived they were announcing that the ladies competition had been postponed and they were preparing the slope for the men’s competition to start in an hour.

2 American team girls passed and I asked if they knew Anna Hoffman, amazingly one of them was actually her. πŸ˜€ We chatted and wished her well in the competition.

We found a good spot to watch the men’s competition and soon found ourselves surrounded by American parents once again. This time it was Casey Larson and his parents told us that in 8 days time he was to be competing in the Winter Olympics. How exciting for them.

A walk back to the centre where we enjoyed wine and nibbles. It had been quite a day. πŸ˜€β›·β„οΈβ›·πŸ˜€

The next few days were started with lazy mornings and trips up the mountain enjoying as much skiing as my leg would allow. It didn’t hurt until I turned left so if only I could have just turned right all the time I would have been okay πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ Andy was still giving me drills to do! β›·πŸ˜¬

We had an evening walk into the village after dinner on Friday so Andy could take some night time photos and we called in at Des Alpes for a beer on the way back.

Tuni had been awarded the Pinkie “Smile of the week” but that wasn’t surprising as he was always smiling πŸ˜€πŸ˜€

On Sunday we had a delivery of a lovely card from the Pinkies with an invitation to have dinner with them the following evening 😍😍

After a day in the sun, skiing on the blue run. We showered and changed to go for dinner with the Pinkies. It was lovely walking into the dining room with dimmed lights and candles on each table. The ham carbonara and roasted peppers was gorgeous, followed by Pear and chocolate crumble …… Yum yum πŸ˜€πŸ˜€ Most of all though it was a wonderful time sat chatting and exchanging stories with everyone. We didn’t even have to clear our plates away, we had lovely smiley Pinkies doing the honours.
Thank you so much to everyone involved.

On Tuesday I wanted to ski as much as I could even though my leg was hurting as we would soon be heading home. By lunchtime we decided to ski down to the lake as it doesn’t need lots of turns to get there πŸ˜‚πŸ˜ Once there we sat on the sofa in the sun and had a beer. It was wonderful, blue skies and amazing views. I really didn’t want to move.

Once back at the centre it was time to start sorting and pack for our homeward journey tomorrow.

Our last day and the weather was a little dismal 😟 so skiing was not on the cards.
We cleaned our room and kitchen, packed the car and went for a walk around the Scout Centre campsite. It was lovely to see it all covered in snow.

Then a spot of lunch before saying our goodbyes around the centre. We found Felipe, Adriana and Belinda in reception and so with hugs we said goodbye but only till next time.

We will be back. 😍😍

Missing it already!!

Carol & Andy
