Living the dream

Just a quick note as I haven’t posted anything for a while.
Here we are in Switzerland staying at the Kandersteg International Scout Centre,

We travelled across the water on the P&O Hull to Zeebrugge overnight ferry and had a great crossing. Our cabin was good and the meals in the Kitchen Buffet Restaurant were lovely. The shop on board was well stocked with lots of lovely goods but we needed a GB sticker for our car. There were F, D and NL but not a GB in sight πŸ˜‚ It wasn’t even that they had sold out, they just don’t stock them. Rather strange for a ship that sails out of or in to Hull every day!! πŸ˜†πŸ˜† We were off the ship by 9:30am and it was going to be a long days drive to KISC, 524 miles, but we made it. We stopped along the way in Luxembourg for cheap fuel and France for cheap wine πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Arriving here is like arriving home. Always welcoming and with wonderful surroundings. We checked into our room in the Old Chalet. We are staying in the Australian Room. It’s a lovely 3 bed room with lots of space and a great view out to the mountains.

We are self catering and have hired a kitchen for our stay. We have the Blue Kitchen.
The kitchens are well equipped and a good size with dining table and chairs. So it’s our own little space to chill out in at any time of day.

It never takes long for us to settle in here. So we are soon relaxed and living the mountain life.

On Sunday we made our way up the mountain in the gondola. The weather wasn’t the best but we were eager enough to not let that bother us. I have to admit I was a little nervous putting my skis on, it had been a couple of years since we had been and I am going to be 60 this year!! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ So off we went and it was a little scary at first. Andy was giving me lots of instructions and encouragement and slowly it started to feel better πŸ˜ƒ We had a few runs down the blue and up on the T bar, each time it was getting easier. We stopped for a drink at the restaurant and believe it or not we had hot chocolate!! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

As the weather wasn’t brilliant we had a few more runs then headed back to the car. I went down the easy way, on the gondola, but Andy skied off the mountain and met me in the car park. He won πŸ˜‚β›·β›·πŸ˜‚

So Monday morning and the weather is no different!! We had a lazy morning, late breakfast, chill time, internet browsing and coffee drinking. Then we decided to brave the weather and get up on that mountain again. All geared up, skis in hand and heading to the gondola.

Now this is the reason I have the time to sit and write this post.

The mountain is closed due to avalanches!!

And it had taken me ages to sort my boots out!!

It was a good enough excuse to stop off at the Hotel Des Alpes for a drink on the way back to the centre and today it was definitely a beer! πŸ˜ƒ

So here we are sat in the lovely warm eco lounge at KISC. Writing blogs and postcards, looking out of the window at the wonderful scenery and knowing we are safe and the sun is coming out tomorrow πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ I sound like Annie now πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

We are here for 3 weeks so there will be further adventures to be told I am sure.

Until then, take care.

Andy & Carol
